You would love that too, because our Mobile-area dental practice can keep you smiling BIG with our preventive dentistry program. To that end, today we decided to share some tips for keeping your teeth and gums in shape, while you are enjoying being in vacation mode. Please keep reading, and then be sure to follow up and schedule your next appointment at Alabama Family Dentistry!

Drink Water All Day Long

You probably already know that drinking water does your whole body a lot of good. Hydration is especially key in these summer months. But beyond the overall health benefits, water can also help keep your breath from becoming offensive by allowing you to produce enough saliva to fight off the bad-breath-causing bacteria.

Don’t Be Tempted By Sugary Sodas & Snacks

We know that you can’t be perfect all the time. Just be mindful of what you put into your mouth this summer. A cold bottle of pop or an icy popsicle might hit the spot but it won’t be much good for your smile in the long run because all that sugar will feed the bacteria that brings about cavities. No one wants to deal with fillings in the fall! Try to limit your intake of such things and you’ll be glad you did.

Brush Those Pearly Whites

Although your schedule–or at any rate your attitude–might be more relaxed, you should still be brushing your teeth for 2 minutes or more, at least twice each day. That’s what the American Dental Association says, and we concur. This will keep decay and disease in check, and it will leave your mouth feeling fresh.

Don’t Forget To Floss

Dr. Whatley can tell you that brushing is a great place to start but it is never going to be enough for the struggle in your mouth. To go after the plaque and tartar that remains between your teeth and in other hard to see areas, dental floss is the weapon you’ll need. Do it at least once each day all summer and beyond.

Rinse With A Fluoride Mouthwash

Take a look around, there are some great fluoride mouthwashes on the market that can bring added oral health benefits. It is a nice way to finish off your routine. Just be sure to read the labels for age-appropriateness.
