Look, dental anxiety is a very real condition. And we take it very seriously around here.
But by avoiding the dentist, and neglecting your oral health needs now, you will only be causing yourself more pain and expense down the road. What we want you to know is that Dr. Whatley can help you work through your fears. What’s more, our comfortable Mobile, AL dentist’s office has all the modern tools and technology to make it easy for you to get the care you deserve.
Don’t Let Dental Anxiety Wreck Your Smile
Coming to the dentist every 3-6 months is essential. If you aren’t doing that, you won’t be receiving the professional cleanings that keep plaque and tartar from creating unhealthy situations. Plus, you will never be aware of any cavities or gum disease that are emerging. Such things can be easily filled or fixed early on. Even scarier, you won’t be getting looked over for oral cancer and other potentially serious problems.
Alleviate Your Fears With Dental Sedation
Around here, we make preventive maintenance and all of our other dental treatments easier and more comfortable with our sedation dentistry options.
Our team realizes that it takes a lot of courage to make that first appointment. This is an even bolder move if you have been away for a while or suspect that you have major dental issues to confront. That’s why you will be treated with nothing but respect and kindness.
To further relax you, we can utilize sedation dentistry techniques too!
Sedation Dentistry Options At Alabama Family Dental
In our office, there are two types of sedation offering different levels of relaxation:
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide or laughing gas is the sedation most commonly used in dental clinics. With this option, the gas gets administered through a comfortable mask that fits over your nose.
The effect is almost immediate; you will feel a bit groggy, and you will have limited awareness of what is happening around you. You may feel sleepy, but you will remain fully conscious.
The good news is that you will also able to respond to instructions from Dr. Whatley. After treatment, the effects of nitrous oxide disappear almost as soon as the gas is turned off allowing you to get on with your day.
Oral sedation is a step up from the level of sedation provided by nitrous oxide. The pill is taken an hour prior to your procedure and will put you in a state of relaxation that will make time pass so quickly you may not even recall sitting in the dentist’s chair!
This higher level of sedation still allows for Dr. Whatley to communicate with you but has an increased amnesiatic effect. Oral sedation also takes a while to wear off, so we will require that you bring a friend or family member who will be able to drive you home after your appointment.
