Overcoming Fear Of The Dentist In Mobile, AL

We know that, with Halloween quickly approaching, there is a lot for some folks to fear: teenage pranksters, ghosts, goblins, and other such haunts. But one thing that you need not fear is a visit to Alabama Family Dental! Dr. Whatley and the rest of our team will treat you to a pleasant and pain-free dentistry experience every time you pass through the doors of our Mobile, ALabama office.

But we get it, if you are still apprehensive. In fact, you are far from alone in feeling the way you do. Get this: roughly 15 percent of the American public sidesteps going to the dentist twice a year on account of some level of dental anxiety (fear of the dentist).

Think about it: that’s over 30 million people who aren’t getting the sort of care they deserve because they (wrongly) assume that there isn’t a dentist in their area who will be sensitive to their special needs, or that will have the tools necessary to follow through.

Those kind of numbers are disturbing to folks in our line of work. Why? Because we really do care about you and your well-being, and we know that by staying away (for whatever reason) you are way more likely to develop tooth decay and gum disease, among other things.

So, today we want to talk about how Dr. Whatley can get you back in the dentist chair for a routine cleaning and examination. We promise to go easy on you. And we’ll take it one slow step at a time. Keep reading, and then be sure to get in touch with our team to schedule your next visit!

First Things First

We want you to be comfortable with us and to feel at home in our office. As such, we go to great lengths to provide a friendly and welcoming environment. Beyond that, we want to ensure that your visit will be pleasant and pain-free EVERY time.

For this, Dr. Whatley offers two kinds of sedation, and he is happy to set you up with whichever one makes the most sense for you!

Nitrous Oxide

This is a milder, though faster-acting method of dental sedation. It is simple: you just breathe in through a mask, and you will inhale nitrous oxide (aka laughing gas).

Soon you will be overcome with a feeling of Euphoria, and you will relax your fears enough to get the services you scheduled.

Once we turn it off, you will be ready to go on with your day in a matter of minutes.

Oral Conscious Sedation

This is a stronger form of sedation dentistry, one that Dr. Whatley has much experience administering. Here’s the deal: an hour or so before your appointment, you will just need to take a pill containing anti-anxiety medication. Its effects can last for a few hours, even beyond your procedure, so be sure to have a ride lined-up for that day.

Make It Happen!

As you can see, sedation dentistry makes everything better! We hope that you are now ready to move forward with your next appointment. All you have to do is call 251-241-0890 or contact our dentist office in Mobile, AL, by using our online form. Dr. Whatley will take care of the rest. See you Soon!
