Your Oral Health Is Too Important To Run From
Some folks tell us that they have had horrific experiences with doctors and dentists in the past, while others simply don’t like the idea of getting shots or the ominous sound of drills.
We can feel your pain. Still, by avoiding the dentist, and neglecting your oral health needs, you will only be causing yourself more pain and expense in the long run.
Sure, you don’t have to immediately re-live any disturbing memories or confront the reality of whatever issues are currently unfolding in your mouth. But these issues always catch up with you in the end.
When this happens, you are usually in a much worse predicament than you would have been if you had just worked through your fears and let Alabama Family Dental keep you on the good road.
Don’t Ditch The Dentist
Here’s the thing:
By not going to the dentist every 3-6 months, you won’t be receiving the professional cleanings that effectively keep plaque and tartar from creating unhealthy situations.
You also will never be made aware of any decay or gum disease that can be easily filled or fixed early on. Plus, you won’t be getting looked over for oral cancer and other potentially serious problems.
Basically, your fear of the dentist is bad for your general well being. You know that, right?
We Can Quickly Alleviate Your Dental Anxiety
You can trust that Alabama Family Dental is on your side in the fight against cavities, gum disease, and worse situations. Yet, if you are afraid to bring yourself to our doorstep, we can’t possibly do you much good.
That said, we do understand that your fear and anxiety is real, and we take it very seriously. That is why we make preventive maintenance and all of our other dental treatments easier and more comfortable with our sedation dentistry options.

But if you give us a chance to earn your trust, we will literally put your fears to rest. And there won’t be any annoying lectures to add insult to your injury.
How Does Sedation Dentistry Work At Alabama Family Dental?
Sedation dentistry refers to the use of sedatives to relax you for your dental procedure. Dental sedation is completely safe and effective. It makes time pass by quickly, and it also helps your dentist perform work without interruption.
You can count on this service whenever you need to undergo an invasive procedure or deal with your dental fear. Around here, there are two types of sedation offering different levels of relaxation:
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide or laughing gas is the sedation most commonly used in dental clinics. With this option, the gas gets administered through a comfortable mask that fits over your nose. The effect is almost immediate; you will feel a bit groggy, and you will have limited awareness of what is happening around you. You may feel sleepy, but you will remain fully conscious. The good news is that you will also able to respond to instructions from Dr. Whatley. After treatment, the effects of nitrous oxide disappear almost as soon as the gas is turned off allowing you to get on with your day.
Do you need to kick it up a notch? We can do that, if need be.
Oral sedation is a step up from the level of sedation provided by nitrous oxide. The pill is taken an hour prior to your procedure and will put you in a state of relaxation that will make time pass so quickly you may not even recall sitting in the dentist’s chair!
This higher level of sedation still allows for Dr. Whatley to communicate with you but has an increased amnesiatic effect. Oral sedation also takes a while to wear off, so we will require that you bring a friend or family member who will be able to drive you home after your appointment.
